Abstract

Burkholderia cepacia infection of the prostate is very rare. We
report 6 cases of prostatic infection secondary to inoculation of
contaminated ultrasound gel during transrectal biopsy of the prostate.
All of these patients required hospitalization and were treated
with intravenous antibiotics. One of these cases is the first description
of chronic prostatitis with B. cepacia.
